Whiten your teeth for a brighter smile!
How does teeth whitening work?
Factors To Consider When Choosing Teeth Whitening Care
At Fletcher Family Dentistry, we specialize in the art and science of dentistry to create beautiful and healthy smiles. We understand the importance of your investment and strive to provide treatments that support good oral health while meeting your smile goals. Our office offers a range of advanced cosmetic dental services, and our team will help you choose the best option for your unique smile.
It's important to note that not all types of stains or discoloration respond equally to teeth whitening procedures. Teeth whitening only targets natural teeth and does not change the color of dental fillings, crowns, or bridges. Individuals with yellow-toned teeth typically see more significant improvements, while those with brown or grayish teeth may need more intensive whitening or alternative treatments. Teeth whitening may not be recommended for individuals with sensitive teeth, worn enamel, or significant gum disease.
Post Teeth Whitening Treatment
Take care of your diet after an in-office treatment. Avoid foods and drinks that can stain your teeth, such as coffee, red wine, dark soft drinks, teas, berries, grapes, chocolate, and other darkly colored foods.
Avoid smoking, as it can stain and yellow your teeth. If you have just had your teeth whitened, refrain from smoking for at least the first couple of days. Quitting or smoking less frequently will benefit your smile's appearance, as well as your oral health and overall well-being.
You may experience sensitivity to cold and hot for a few days after the procedure. This discomfort usually goes away, but you can take over-the-counter pain medication and use toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth to alleviate any discomfort.
Keep in mind that teeth whitening results vary from person to person. The original shade of your teeth, diet, and oral habits can affect both short-term and long-term results. Teeth whitening procedures do not change the color of existing fillings, crowns, bridgework, or dental bonding. If this is a concern, we can discuss replacing a restoration.
To maintain the results of your treatment, practice proper oral hygiene and regular dental care. We can also provide a take-home whitening system for touch-ups if needed.
