The objective of dental sedation
We solve all your dental fears and worries.
The Mechanism of Action of Nitrous Oxide
The gas commonly referred to as "laughing gas" or nitrous oxide is used to induce feelings of happiness and relaxation. Administered through a nose mask, it acts quickly. Our dentists have the ability to regulate the amount of nitrous oxide given, ensuring your utmost comfort during the procedure.
Contrary to popular belief, nitrous oxide does not cause you to fall asleep. Instead, it induces a deeply relaxed state where occasional drifting off may occur, but we can easily awaken you if necessary. You will remain awake enough to follow our instructions throughout the procedure. You may experience slight lightheadedness or a tingling sensation in your arms and legs. Generally, you will feel calm and relaxed. Your awareness of your surroundings may be slightly diminished, and you may not recall the procedure afterwards.
Should I consider using Nitrous Oxide?
- Dental care-related fears or anxieties
- Tooth or gum sensitivity
- Excessive sensitivity to gagging
- Difficulty in maintaining a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Challenges in maintaining an open jaw
- Neck or back discomfort
- Multiple treatments can be administered in a single session.
What to Expect After Your Procedure
Once the treatment is finished, the administration of the sedative will be discontinued. You will be accompanied to a designated waiting area where you can remain until the effects of the gas wear off. Typically, it takes approximately thirty minutes for you to regain normal sensations. Unlike other sedatives, nitrous oxide does not produce any long-term side effects. Consequently, you should be able to drive yourself to and from your appointment without encountering any difficulties. You can even resume your work immediately afterwards!
